tenants who have not completed their application are encouraged to complete them as soon as possible.
• Applicants with rent I arrears prior to March 2022 are still able to request assistance for those unpaid rental amounts.
• If a landlord or utility provider who received payments from the program in 2021 has not received an Internal Revenue Service Form 1099 by February 15, 2022, they are encouraged to call the Housing is Key call center at (833) 430-2122 to request a duplicate copy.
• As of February 25, 2022, approximately $2.1 billion in rent and utility assistance has been paid to more than 183,800 households from the state run program. The program is now processing
• Because the state’s rental relief funds come from the Federal government, California is following the U.S. Department of Treasury’s guidelines for disbursing funds. They will continue to apply for additional
funds from the U.S. Treasury to help even more Californians get the financial assistance they need. The state announced recently that it is requesting up to $1.9 billion in additional rental relief funds from the Federal government.
• HCD will begin processing some of the stalled applications by prioritizing older applications and also some of the more simpler applications (they call “quick hits).
• To address fraud, HCD is requiring additional documentation from both landlords and renters.
