The landlord’s wife came over to visit her son, James, for dinner on Thursday night. The son lives with a female roommate. During the course of the meal, the landlord’s wife couldn’t help but notice how pretty her son’s roommate is. As the evening progress and while watching the two interact, the landlord’s wife started to wonder if there was more between her son and his roommate than met the eye. Reading his mom’s thoughts,
the son volunteered, “I know what you must be thinking, Mom, but I assure you, she and I are only roommates.’’
About a week later, the female roommate came to the James and said, “Ever since your mother came to dinner, I have been unable to find the silver sugar bowl. You don’t suppose she took it, do you?” James, the son, then responded, “Well, I doubt it, but I’ll email her, just to be sure.”
So, James sat down and wrote an email to his mother, the landlord’s wife: “Dear Mom, I’m not saying that you ‘did’ take the sugar bowl from my house and I’m not saying that you ‘did not’ take it. But the fact remains that it has been missing ever since you were here for dinner. Your Loving Son, James.”
A few days later, the son received a response email from his mother, the landlord’s wife, which read: “Dearest Son, James, I’m not saying that you ‘do’ sleep with your attractive roommate, and I’m not saying that you ‘do not’ sleep with her. But the fact remains that if she was sleeping in her OWN bed, she would have found the sugar bowl by now. Your Loving Mother...”
