 Letters to the Editor
LETTERS TO THE EDITOR:
On the April 1, 2022, Daily Wire Article – “Los Angeles Landlords Face Nightmare Scenario: Tenants Who Stay and Don’t Pay”
I feel the failure of the state’s “Housing is Key” program may be the failure by the State of California to invite the Apartment trade associations to provide cooperation in the preparation of the [rent relief] applications and allow these groups to submit the applications by mail, facsimile or electronic mail. Many [rental property] owners do not have the ability to scan documents into the portals provided by the “Housing is Key” rent relief program. “Housing is Key” will not allow and permit [rental property] owners or tenants to send documents by facsimile or mail.
The “Housing is Key” rent relief program should have hired former and retired insurance adjusters as staff members who could handle many thousands of claims per month. There is no eviction emergency in Los Angeles any longer. You may not file for eviction unless you assert you are within [have filed an application with] “Housing is Key.” Our political friends need to allow apartment trade associations to help. The continued “freeze” on rent increases and moratorium on evictions is not lawful!

Your Channel 2 (CBS Television News on March 31, 2022) sound bite was excellent! Being on CBS (TV) instead of the smaller media is good too. Talking about “no other industry” [has been forced to provide services for free] comment was really
great. Yes, your time could have been longer! Thank you!

It [the interview] might have been brief but it was direct and to the point. Everyone who listened to the newscast should have understood exactly what you were saying about small landlords being the only businesses that were forced to go without payment. [Also] That they didn’t get any relief on their mortgages or their expenses like property taxes, insurance, utilities, maintenance, etc., etc.
