saw a way to bless me in the midst of my medical madness and I would like to share my story to inspire you.
My drive to become a physician evolved when I was in middle school volunteering with my church mission in Los Angeles feeding the homeless. I witnessed hungry, sickly people living on the streets and I wanted to do more for them. Given my love for math and science, I decided to become a doctor because I believed that would be a good way to help. My life has been very challenging over the years. Statistically speaking I should not be where I am today. Both of my parents struggled with drug and alcohol abuse, which is why my mother’s sister raised me. Growing up in Compton I had to overcome many obstacles to achieve my dream to become a physician. God does not waste anything, and He inspired me to share my story, which overflowed into the poems in “FloweTry: A Collection of 108 Poetic Flows on Life, Love, and Liturgical Issues.”
Community service is important to me. I served as a medical officer in the United States Navy during the Global War on Terrorism. I was stationed with the Sea Bees, the Naval construction battalion, in Port Hueneme, and I sung in my local church choir. I love to sing and have always participated in my church choir; sadly, COVID has put a damper on that recently. I am currently a trustee at my church, so I am able to help in other ways. I give lectures over ZOOM to the UHS Southern California Medical Education Consortium family practice residents on subjects in obstetrics and gynecology.
I am the chair for Women’s Health and Wellness Target Programming for my sorority, which means I oversee community outreach educational programs for health and wellness for women. I have learned that I am more than just the practice of medicine.
In addition to being a rental property owner I am an author of the poetry book, “FloweTry,” retired OB/GYN, and a graduate of UC Santa Barbara where I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in cellular and developmental biology with a Black studies minor. After earning my medical doctorate degree from Meharry Medical College and completing my OB/GYN Internship at Naval Medical Center San Diego, I went on to serve as a General Medical Officer for the Sea Bees, the U.S. Navy construction battalion. I completed my OB/GYN residency at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee, and practiced for 20 years before sustaining a hand injury that led to my medical retirement.
Dr. Tate-Moore works in Riverside, California and specializes in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Tate-Moore is affiliated with Kaiser Permanente Riverside Medical Center.
