On Recalling Councilmember, Mike Bonin
Councilmember, Mike Bonin, has attempted to destroy neighborhoods by permitting recreational vehicles (RVs) to illegally park in the Playa Del Rey, Venice, Westchester, and Mar Vista areas of the City of Los Angeles. Councilmember Bonin was able to persuade the Los Angeles Police Department’s Pacific Division officers not to enforce the “overnight” parking restrictions so that overnight, RV parking could continue unabated.
Councilmember Bonin chaired the City’s Transportation Committee and arranged to eliminate criminal sanctions for illegal parking. It is now only a minor “infraction” and, therefore, the City will not remove illegally parked RVs and campers that have sat in front of people’s homes for months. This is all just “classic Bonin.”
The impairment and harm caused to neighborhoods by Councilmember Bonin’s policies in connection with allowing RVs and campers to park freely and without recourse and inviting these homeless populations into our neighborhoods would suggest that it is urgent that we remove Councilmember Bonin from office before more harm is done. Therefore, I will reluctantly “Vote to Support Recall.”
A recall campaign effort will be expensive but the grave “harm” caused by Councilmember Bonin is so extreme and acute that we Angelenos cannot postpone his removal any longer, not even for another month! Councilmember Bonin has betrayed his trust to his neighbors in Mar Vista and surrounding communities and must now be removed from Office.
I am one that opposes recall campaigns, but Councilmember Bonin’s failure to meet his promises on homelessness, safe neighborhoods, and many other issues mandate and require that we act now and seek his immediate removal from office. The Los Angeles City Council is non-partisan, and
Councilmember Bonin has never run for office as Democrat and his literature never promoted the fact that he was registered as a Democrat. Accordingly, he has violated all the basic democratic principles and values. I am sorry, but Councilmember Bonin has lied to the Mar Vista and neighboring communities and has attempted to destroy housing in the City of Los Angeles in the face of severe housing shortages. Councilmember Mike Bonin is just bad for Mar Vista and bad for the City of Los Angeles. Let’s all vote to recall Mike Bonin.
