Cheryl Turner Re-Takes the
Lead as Board President
Look Forward to Another Year of Great DLeadership During 2022

uring the Annual Membership Meeting held this past November, the members of the Apartment Association of Greater Los Angeles unanimously affirmed the re- appointment of Ms. Cheryl Turner as President of the Board of Directors for the year 2022. She was
nominated and voted on for reappointment by the Board of Directors this past October 2021.
Ms. Turner is the first African American woman to hold the title of President in the Association’s 105-year history. She re-takes the leadership role with the Association in what will be its 105th Anniversary Year.
As a practicing attorney, Ms. Turner’s areas of legal practice are real estate, business, taxation, construction, insurance, tort, and civil rights litigation. Having formerly practiced in insurance defense, she also has extensive experience in claims management. She is licensed to practice law in the State of California, including the California Supreme Court; the U.S. Tax Court, U.S Court of Appeals and the United .State Supreme Court. She has been active in politics as both a community advocate and a candidate for elected office, and in the past, has campaigned for elected office as a member of the State Board of Equalization, State Assembly and State Senate.
During her inaugural term as President, she oversaw the rapid growth of the Association’s membership base to where the Association is now the largest apartment association affiliated within the National Apartment Association (NAA) based on member households and had
experienced the largest growth in owned and managed member unit counts out of all NAA affiliates during 2020 / 2021. Ms. Turner also played in integral role in leading the defense in threats against the Ellis Act, mitigating eviction moratoriums, and in obtaining rental assistance for the State’s housing providers.
Daniel Yukelson, Executive Director of the Association, stated: “We have been able to accomplish a great deal under Cheryl’s leadership. No other President in our history has taken such an active roll in moving the ‘ball’ forward and improving the regulatory conditions we housing providers face today. She is a true leader and most valued collaborator.”
